Participant Admissions

Admissions & Application Process

  1. Information

Inquiries are accepted by phone (423-268-4624) or email (info@BrothersKeeperTN.org). Information regarding the program as well as any other general questions can be discussed.

  2. Brother’s Keeper Tour

Should the applicant’s needs and expectations seem to be within the range of our staff expertise, a tour for families is the next step in the admissions process. The applicant’s presence is requested at this tour. The tour is scheduled directly with the Educational Director, Ashlee Thompson. This tour is invaluable and provides a first-hand view of the program. During the tour, Brother’s Keeper history, expectations, mission, and future plans will be shared.

  3. The Application

Deciding the program fits your needs, you will be provided an application at the conclusion of the tour. The completed application with a $25 non-refundable fee will be returned for review and processing. The Admissions Committee conducts a thorough study of the information provided, determines the placement availability and suitability of each applicant, and notifies you whether or not to continue with the next step in the admissions procedure.

  4. The Interview

If there is an opening available, the parent(s)/guardian(s) and the applicant will be notified to meet with Admissions Committee members to discuss program goals, daily activities, and the applicant’s goals and plans. Discussion will continue to refine details and assess the suitability of the applicant within the range of our staff expertise and program mission. This will give you an opportunity to ask questions as well. Participation by at least one parent/guardian is required.

  5. Admissions Committee Recommendation

You will be notified of the decision made by the Admissions Committee. The committee may decide one of the following at this time:

    • Further evaluation is needed, which may include calls to references and/or a half-day visit to the program.
    • The applicant is not acceptable at this time.
    • The applicant is accepted on a probationary basis. All new participants are accepted on a probationary basis and will have a 90-day review once enrolled in the program.
  6. Enrollment

Upon acceptance, the new participant and parent(s)/guardian(s) will meet with the Educational Director. At this time, the enrollment, orientation, and intake procedures will be discussed. An Individualized Plan meeting will be scheduled and conducted prior to the enrollment date.
